46-Year-Old Man Shot and Killed in Midtown Manhattan During Rush Hour – blogged by @MsJennyb

 In 2016, 362 have been shot dead by the Police. According to The Washington Post, of those killed, 22 were unarmed, 197 were armed with a gun and 63 with a knife. Today, ABC News reported police shot and killed a 46-year-old man in Midtown Manhattan after the suspect was reportedly assaulting or threatening someone with an 8-inch knife. 

 

The shooting took place just a few blocks from Times Square, around 8:20 a.m. Officers responded to reports of an altercation between the man, whose name has not yet been released, and a cashier at Food Emporium grocery store on 8th avenue between 49th and 50th streets. 

 

NYPD Chief James O’Neill described the suspect as a white male. He reported that the altercation occured while the man was trying to buy a beer. 

 

“He got very aggressive and belligerent,” O’Neill claimed. 

 

An officer on foot patrol reported to the scene initially, when the man “began to struggle with the officer, and he fell to the ground outside of the store,” O’Neill said. 

 

Nine shots were fired at the 46-year-old knife wielding man. 

 

According to ABC News, one of the officers received an apparent slash wound and is being treated, as well as a female bystander, who was grazed by a by one of the shots targeted at the man.
