Auburn Student Admits To Lying About Football Player Assaulting Her

Before being dismissed by Auburn University, Jovon Robinson was the number one junior college football player in the country. All of that changed when a female student accused him of assaulting her.

“He did not meet my expectations of what it takes to be an Auburn Tiger football player,” said head coach Gus Malzahn at the time of Robinson’s dismissal. Only one problem, though — Robinson did not assault anyone. In fact, the woman who accused him did so out of spite because she was angry because he made her leave his room on  July 15 after an early morning argument

The accuser made the claim at roughly 6am that morning. She sent an email to Coach Malzahn saying after their argument, Robinson caused her to smash her head into the door and bloody her knees. She claimed Robinson had a history of abusing her and that he needed to be held responsible for his actions. She also claimed to have taken the matter to law enforcement.  The coach then forwarded the email to Auburn’s Title IX coordinator, Kelley Taylor, who contacted the woman later that morning. However, when asked for pictures of the injuries, the accuser never sent them. This according to an interview the accuser, whose identity has not been revealed, did with AL.com.

(Taylor) really wanted to make it a big deal, after I told her basically that I lied,” the accuser told AL.com. “I can see her calling me one time after I said it, but two times and then a week later? That kind of made me wonder, why was she trying to do that?”

Following Robinson’s dismissal, the woman came back and admitted she lied. In an email to Coach Malzahn she wrote, “I’m not sure if your decision today had anything to do with my situation a few weeks ago, but I just wanted you to know that I made up the entire thing simply because I was upset with Jovon at the time. I haven’t had any contact with him in the past few weeks but I do not think my lie should have costed him his spot on the team. Please consider changing your mind because I would really hate to see a person with so much potential lose his opportunity because of my silly fib. Jovon didn’t do anything to me that night but ask me to leave his room and I was upset about that.”

It’s rather disheartening how easily someone can ruin someone else’s life like that. All because of something so trivial.
