Baller Alert’s Today in Hip-Hop: 2Pac Released “California Love” 22 Years Ago

22 years ago today, 2Pac released his single “California Love” featuring Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman.

After being released from prison in 1995, the single was dubbed as 2Pac’s comeback. It was also his first single as a Death Row Records artist.

To this day, the song remains a classic and is a gangsta ode to the West Coast that both 2Pac and Dre loved.

“California Love” was Pac’s most successful single, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining there for two weeks. The song even won Pac a posthumous Grammy Award for the Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (with Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman).
