Baller Alert’s Today in Hip-Hop: The Fugees Released “Fu-Gee-La”

On Dec. 13, 1995, the iconic hip-hop group The Fugees released their single “Fu-Gee-La” from their second album, ‘The Score.’

With their impeccable lyricism and Afrocentric vibes, the group had an instant hit on their hands. Lauryn Hill vocals sing out over the chorus, paying tribute to Teena Marie’s “Ooo La La,” while Wyclef Jean and Pras spit real lyrics, letting Lauryn jump in as well with her charismatic flow.

The single became the group’s highest-selling single and has been certified gold by the RIAA. It peaked at number 29 on the Hot 100 and at number 13 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
