Baller Alert’s Today in Hip-Hop: Rapper Shyne Released Self-Titled Debut Album

17 years ago today, rapper Shyne released his self-titled debut album on Bad Boy Records.

The release of the album was highly anticipated due to the similarities in Shyne and another Bad Boy member, Notorious B.I.G.’s flow.

Shyne was also in the press after being convicted in June 2000, for his involvement in a nightclub shooting. He was incarcerated at the time of the album’s release.

Though he was battling his legal troubles, the album was a success, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The album, brought us some hip-hop classics like “Bad Boyz” and “That’s Gangsta.”
