At the start of every new year, many make promises or set goals of self-improvement for the upcoming year. Most people promise to improve their physical well-being by eating healthier, losing weight or to quit smoking. Others take a money-oriented approach by promising to improve their finances or their career. However, there are a quite a few people who take a step away from social media, in an effort to clear their mind of the clutter and negative energy the virtual world brings. On the other hand, there are a couple who [need] to take a break, for the greater good of humanity.
So, as we near the end of the 2016, it’s time to recognize some of the celebrities who should consider deactivating their social media accounts for a while, if not for good.
5. Funkmaster Flex – Funk Flex has found himself on this list for the second consecutive year. Although, the Hot 97 DJ is a legend, his presence on social media doesn’t sit well with the younger generation. Last year, we suggested a brief hiatus, however, this year he may have to pack it up for good. This year, the world famous DJ found himself in the middle of one-too many social media beefs. From Drake to Bow Wow to Drake again, the youngins on social media are begging Flex to go. Being that Flex has been a household name for years, the social media shenanigans are just a bad look. If Flex just deactivates his Twitter account and works from Instagram, I’d say all is forgiven. Right?
4. Azealia Banks – Once again, Azealia Banks has made her way back into the Social Media Shenanigans Hall of Fame. Another year has gone by and the rapper is still best known for her antics on social media. Earlier this year, Twitter suspended her account after she tweeted racial and gay slurs to former One Direction Zayn Malik. After that, Banks apologized via social media and claimed to have turned over a new leaf. A few months later, the rapper made headlines once against after a public dispute with Russell Crowe. The next day, she went on social media and claimed he shouted racial slurs and obscenities at her, however, everyone at the party refuted her claims. A few social media outbursts later, she vowed to change, in the new year. I’d suggest she take a break from social media all together, or at least hire a publicist.
3. Orlando Brown – Child stars have it the hardest. This year, Orlando Brown has been arrested for alleged battery and drug possession, he’s dropped a few bombs regarding his former co-star Raven-Symone, and he even got into his own social media feud. However, the worst incident of the year, may have been when he posted a physical alternation between himself and his baby mother on Instagram. The two have been on a rocky road for months. In the beginning of the year, Brown’s arrest was directly linked to another physical altercation he had with the mother of his child. Following his arrest, Brown took to social media to show that he and his baby mother were still together, asking her “baby, did I beat you?” Just a few months ago, he got into a little social media dispute over MTV’s Hottest MC’s of 2016 list. The Breakfast Club’s Charlemagne tha God posted a meme of the Hottest MC’s of 2016 filled with photos of Brown. Brown acknowledged the meme and thanks CthaGod for the honor. However, CthaGod wasn’t being serious and once Brown figured it out, he got angry. He began dissing the radio host on Instagram, calling him a bunch of names and carrying on. So, in the New Year, to save everyone the headache, Brown should go ahead and deactivate his social media accounts….and get help.
2. Soulja Boy – This year, it was Soulja Boy vs. Everybody. For that alone, the “Crank Dat” rapper should take a brief vacation from social media. However, if endless social media beefs aren’t enough to convince the rapper to deactivate his accounts, maybe the bookings will help. Just a few months ago, after a long drawn out Instagram battle between Soulja Boy and Lil Yachty and then Quavo, the rapper found himself behind bars. Apparently, after threatening Quavo online with guns, officials began to investigate the rapper. As a result, Soulja Boy was arrested on suspected probation violation. Although, the charges were ultimately dropped, the incident should serve as a wake up call for the rapper. Or, at least a hint to stay off of social media.
1. Donald Trump – 2016 was a year. While, it’s unclear if it could be described as good or bad, it certainly was interesting. This year, Donald J. Trump was elected as the President of the United States. That alone, should worry us all. However, the fact that the President-elect is “Twitter Fingers,” makes matters worse. Since the election, Trump’s tweets have threatened international relations and he hasn’t even been sworn in yet. So, for the sake of us all, it will be much better if Trump stays off of the internet for the new year.
