With only a few hours left in the year, we reflect upon the challenges and joys of 2016. Casually we recall the greatest memories -some pertaining to sports. We think about how Oklahoma blew a 3-1 lead to Golden State only for the Warriors to return the favor to Cleveland during the finals. The Summer Olympics in Rio proved to be awesome. Soccer had some memorable moments and we are currently witnessing the Dallas Cowboys reek havoc on their opponents. We also lost a few future Hall of Famers to retirement. Yes, 2016 was awesomeness for sports. Let’s Review some of the top athletes. These are in no particular order.
•Simone Biles- This little lady etched her name in history with her performance at the Olympic Games in Rio. Garnering 21 medals (16 gold) total, Biles earns herself a comfy spot on this list.
• Zeke and Dak- Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott are a match made in heaven. These two are having the times of their lives and it is evident in the Cowboys’ record. Zeke has rushed for 1631 yards . Dak has a 68.1 completion rate.
• Michael Phelps- He is a human fish. Competing in the Olympics this year proved that although her is a bit older. He still has it. He dominated in swimming. Phelps has 83 medals total with 66 of them being gold. He retired this year.
•Simone Manuel- This young lady is incredible. With a total of 10 medals, Manuel made history as the first African-American woman to win an individual record in swimming as well as set an Olympic and American record.
•LeBron James – let’s be honest. Need I say more?
• Odell Beckham Jr.- When OBJ isn’t being someone’s MCM or giving us a meme-worthy altercation with the night, this Giant is balling out of control. This season he has 1,323 yards!
•Usain Bolt- the world’s fastest man. This year’s Olympics wasn’t any different. It’s rather unfair for him to compete. The event is finished before it begins. 29 total medals. 24 are gold!
• Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi – If I had to pick the best soccer player between these two, it would be the hardest thing for me to do. These guys are super talented and very dedicated to the game.
2016 was bitter sweet as well. Some of our favorite athletes bid farewell to the game they loved. A piece of our heart retired with them as well.
• Kevin Garnett
