Baller Talk- Brianna Perry Talks New EP “Fortune Cookie,” Being on Trina’s Album At 9-Years-Old and Cardi B: “She’s So Positive and She’s So Embracing and That’s Very Rare in Female Hip-Hop”

For the last sixteen years, Miami’s own Brianna Perry has been grinding to make a name for herself in the industry. But now, after nearly two decades in the business, Perry is ready to let it be known that she is, in fact, the Princess of Hip-Hop.

In a recent interview with Baller Alert to push the release of her new EP, “Fortune Cookie,” Perry opened up about growing up in Miami and her journey, which consisted of early work with Missy Elliott, Timbaland and the Baddest Bitch, Trina.

“I’ve been to a lot of places but I just feel like Miami has something that no other place has,” Perry said of the 305. “It’s such a beautiful city. You have the beauty but then you also have the realness. You in your reality, but can escape your reality, you can ride, you can come to South Beach, you can see how other people are living. So much inspiration here, the culture, the food. I love my city, I loved growing up here.”

At the tender age of 7, Perry launched her career as a rapper, recording her first record at the Poe Boy Music Group studios under the supervision of her uncles. From there, Perry caught the attention of the King and Queen of Miami, Trina and Trick Daddy, who then signed the young rapper at the age of 10.

“I’ve known what I wanted to do for a very long time, since I was seven-years-old,” Perry said of her start. “But, it’s just so many different stages of the journey, so many growing pains, and just being in different situations. Even though I’ve been chasing the same dream since I been a little kid it’s just been so many different experiences.”

“Every day I’m learning something new,” she continued, as she explained how it all came together. “Things got serious for me, and I started to take it a little [more serious] when I was like nine-years-old. I got called to come into the studio to get on Trina’s “Diamond Princess” album on the “Kandi Girl” track, we redid New Edition’s “Candy Girl” and it came out when I was 10 years old. So, that’s when I was like, ‘Oh no, this is getting serious.’”

Perry’s work with Trina garnered the attention of Missy Elliott, who in turn, signed Perry to The Goldmind Inc. one year later as the youngest act on the label.

As years passed, and Perry’s career continued to take off, the rapper took her talents to television to further push her name and likeness toward national recognition. From an appearance on “Sisterhood of Hip-Hop” to her feature in Baller Alert’s original series, “Bottle Girls,” Perry revealed she always had a passion for acting.

“It’s just close to music to me, you’re creating,” Perry said. “I always had a passion for that, like every since I been a kid.”

As Perry continued, she opened up about her project, “Fortune Cookie,” and hinted at more collaborations in the future.

“It’s so many dope artists,” Perry said. “It’s so many different voices, for a long time it was just one female voice. It represented the whole gender. So now, you getting so many different styles and I love it.”

As she continued, she expressed her love for one of the biggest female voices in Hip-Hop, Cardi B.

“I love Cardi,” Perry said. “It’s just her as an individual I love her, she’s so positive and she’s so embraing. That’s very rare in female hip-hop. A lot of the times, females don’t know how to do that. They don’t really know how to share the light or commend another chick for slaying or being on their shit so. That’s my girl.”

In the end, Perry described her longstanding journey as a “process,” in which she is still learning and growing. But, when it’s all said and done, Perry said her story may very well be book or movie worthy. Would you cop?
