Ballerific Black Women: Karen Civil

It’s still Black History Month so I wanted to continue to spotlight our generation’s black men & women doing big things. Next up we have my birthday twin, Karen Civil.

Karen is a Jack(ie) of all trades. The New Jersey native got her start working as an assistant to Hot 97 on air personality Funk Master Flex and since then, has hit the ground running doing A&R work for Diplomat Records, Young Money and most recently as Social Media Manager at Beats By Dre. Karen is known for introducing the world to the likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Mac Miller, J.Cole and many more.

In 2008 Karen launched her blog site KarenCivil.com which focuses on celebrity culture, music and news. In 2011 Karen was listed in The Source Magazine’s Digital Power 30 list of bloggers and internet influencers for the the second time in a row. Karen has also teamed up with popular urban brand Goodwood to launch her own jewelry line “Live Civil”.

Karen has received much recognition both online and off. She’s been featured in Honey Magzine, The Source, XXL Magazine, Vibe and more. At just 28 years old, she is a huge inspiration to myself that in an industry full of men, hard work truly pays off. You can find Karen on the pages of the latest issue of The Source with 2Chainz, Tyga & Mac Miller on the cover.
