Ballerific Health: Keep Your Fitness Goals Going for 2017

goals

We are less than a month into the new year and if you haven’t jump start your fitness journey, it’s not too late to get down to business. We often set our goals and resolutions for the new year, but sometimes  life gets in the way and makes it becomes harder to maintain them. Before you know it, another year has gone by and you’re still stuck in your ways, coming up with the same excuses as last year. So, what can you do to maintain the goals you’ve set for yourself this year? Want it!

Every new year you tell yourself that you’re going to hit the gym at the top of the year but by week two, you’re sitting in your bed, eating ice cream, watching re-runs of Moesha. However, it is never too late to make a change.

  1. Set Goals – When goals are set you have something to work towards. However, when setting goals in regards to fitness, you must be realistic. You can’t run the treadmill for a few days and expect to shed 10 lbs just like that. It takes three weeks to form a habit and about three months to see major results. It takes consistency and patience.
  2. Start Small – While most people like to jump right in, thinking they’ll see results faster, the best way to keep up with your fitness goals is to take it slow. Start small. If you aren’t a water drinker, start with a bottle a day. Instead of the double bacon cheese burger, grab a chicken sandwich. Swap out the fried foods for grilled. Take one step at a time and trust the process.
  3. Grab a Partner – Keeping up with fitness goals can be hard, especially after a long day of work. Find someone that is just as motivated as you to make a big change in their lives. For the days when you don’t want to get up and work out, there is someone there to push you and encourage you to get it done.
  4. See it, Be it, Want it – You’ve got to be able to see it to believe it. If you’re able to visualize yourself at the finish line, it’s easier for you to work towards the goal. At the end of the day, there is nothing stopping you from busting out the two-piece bikini but yourself. Get in the gym, craft up a meal plan, tape a picture of your fitness goals on the mirror, visualize it and make it happen.
  5. Love yourself – Self-esteem is important when trying to maintain fitness goals, or goals in general. It’s easy to get discouraged when you aren’t happy with your current state, but now that you’ve set an end goal; Go get it! Everyone isn’t routing for you, but as long as you know what your goals are and know that you can work hard to achieve it, it won’t matter what anyone says. Don’t let anyone dim your light.
