Ballerific Health: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

For a lot of us weight loss can seem impossible. Especially when you face your reflection in the mirror and realize it’s a lot worse than you thought. For @JustRobbin that’s exactly what it took to get her moving in her journey to fit.

My journey started March 14, 2012. I had finally reached my point where enough was enough! Even with the doctor telling me 7 months prior that I was stroke level with my blood pressure being so high, that still wasn’t enough to pull me away from the fast food and laziness. It was when I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize my own self anymore. I’ve always been a little on the heavy side but I had reached my highest at 228lbs. I asked if I was going to do something about it at 230? Or maybe at 250?

I had a heart to heart with my boyfriend and family and told them I was serious this time, I was determined to lose the weight and I needed their support to not eat the unhealthy stuff around me, because that would only tempt me to break. Enough was enough! I started looking at Google and YouTube for different ways to get healthy and lose weight. So I decided to cut out all sweets, alcohol, fried food, fast food, sodas all that crap for 3 months and stuck strictly to green leafy veggies, lean white meats, little fruits, little dairy and a ton of water, the weight was falling off with minimum exercise (walking, maybe 30mins a day). Absolutely no cheats during this time. I shocked the hell out of my body is what I did and in June 2012 I had lost about 45lbs.

I slowly added in other healthier food options, like brown rice, starchy veggies and other grains. Of course I hit a plateau at about 180lbs, then that’s when I start hitting the exercising up heavier and harder. I exercised about 2 hrs a day, 5-6 days a week and 1.5 hrs of it was cardio the rest would be strengthening. Again I shocked my body and the weight started coming off again. I lost majority of my weight about 65-70lbs in about 9-10months. I’m now comfortable in my own body I see changes I need and want but I’m nowhere near where I used to be. My weight now falls between 145-150lbs I have been off blood pressure meds for well over a year, I still monitor it though. The lessons I’ve learned with doing this the hard way  makes me appreciate my hard work and I’ll work just as hard to stay healthy. I’ve kept the weight off now for almost 2 years and I’m now focusing on toning it all up. Some days are easier than others but every day is worth it!
