Ballerific Health: Small Changes and A Lot of Consistency

When it comes to weight loss and seeing results, sometimes consistency and small changes is all you need. Just ask @thespecialtee whose down 80 pounds and living the healthiest she’s ever been.

In the summer of 2011 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. At that point I was overweight at about 230lbs. I had already lost about 30lbs after 2 years of being inconsistent with workouts and eating habits. I realized that I could not control having MCTD but I could control my physical and nutritional health.

January 2012 I started working out an hour a day doing cardio 5-6 days a week. I have never counted calories throughout my entire journey. Instead, I chose to change how I ate. I stopped keeping bread, cheese, milk, alcohol, and sugar in my home. I would only partake in those items if I was eating out, and even then I was still very limited on the intake of those specific items. I instead started eating egg whites or oatmeal for breakfast, packed a salad for lunch every single day, and ate a protein and veggie rich dinner nightly. I was finally at a point in my life where I was ready for a lifestyle change, not just weight loss. That’s why 2 months shy of 3 years later I am down about 80 pounds total and at age 33 feel the best I’ve felt in my adult life.

I have stayed consistent with a healthy lifestyle and workout regimen and stopped worrying about the scale. I still work out 4-6 days a week but am not as strict on my food intake. I regularly enjoy a glass of wine and I don’t starve nor deprive myself of good food. I refuse to eat bird food all the time. I have made this a lifestyle that works for me. Everyone has their own journey. I am not skinny, I don’t want to be. I just want to live a healthy life and always remain active.
