In a perfect world, people of color would be presented the same opportunities as their white counterparts. Unfortunately, this world is far from perfect, however, there are people, more specifically women, who have dedicated their time, money and education to make a positive change. They’ve used their experiences and their encounters with injustices to fight and/or create more opportunities for their children and their children’s children, in an effort to make the world a better place. One of those special individuals is Ms. TT Torrez.

Coming from humble beginnings, Ms. Torrez always knew she was more of a creative soul than an academic all-star.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once she graduated from high school, TT decided to get her feet wet in radio after having the chance to shadow at a local radio station and realizing right then and there that, that was the career for her.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For some time, she worked as a college representative for Atlantic Records and landed her first radio gig in South Carolina after she was referred to the position by a friend.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While in school, she also got an opportunity in Charlotte, NC, which she traveled to once a week for the 4 AM on-air slot she was given. Not one to pass up an opportunity, TT traveled back and forth with little money just to keep her spot on the radio, until she later transferred to Johnson C. Smith University to be closer to her new job.

After plenty sacrifices and road bumps along the way, TT finally got the chance to hit the ground running. For the next four years, she worked for Music Choice as a producer, writer, and host for celebrity interviews.

Meanwhile, as she kept herself busy in television, she continued to work at several radio stations across the East Coast, until she landed her dream job at New York’s number one radio station, HOT 97.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Despite her fast pace lifestyle, Ms. Torrez makes sure to count her blessings and has always made it a priority to give back to her community. Her charity efforts usually gain national attention; and she was even once given the award, “Best Community Service,” by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters.

She pushes hard for more awareness and positivity in the women community and encourages women to start following their dreams at a young age.

After years of hard work and dedication, TT Torrez has made a name for herself in the media world in a way she never thought was possible. Through her accomplishments and constant appreciation of where she comes from, she has inspired herself and others to keep reaching for the stars.
