Unarmed, Pregnant Black Woman Screams “I’m Pregnant” Before Being Fatally Shot By Texas Officer

A pregnant, unarmed Black woman was fatally shot and killed by a police officer right after she screamed:: “I’m pregnant.”

This Monday night, a Bayton, Texas police officer fatally shot a Black woman while trying to arrest her at her apartment complex. The night of the incident, an unidentified officer was patrolling 45-year-old Pamela Shantay Turner’s home, knowing she had outstanding arrest warrants from previous encounters with her, according to CNN.

When the officer attempted to arrest her, she resisted, and the officer tasered her. In the midst of him struggling to handcuff her, the woman obtained the taser and used it on him. Cell phone footage captured Turner flailing her arms and screaming “I’m pregnant” before the officer fired several shots at her. At least one shot hit her. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris said the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was ”on the scene and assisting in the investigation, as is normal in these types of incidents.” “Any future updates will be provided via an official press release later today, as the investigation unfolds,” he added. No reports have confirmed whether Turner was pregnant or not.  

Turner leaves behind two children, both in their 20s, and three grandchildren.
