On Tuesday, Charlamagne Tha God took to “The Breakfast Club” to clear his name and clarify an audio clip from his Brilliant Idiots podcast, where he discussed rape culture.
In the clip, which was reposted by SideConvos without context, the radio host said, “I keep telling y’all. I’ve told y’all this over and over. It’s a lot of things guys did especially when we were young that were rape that we didn’t consider rape.”
“I’m married to my wife,” he continued. “Me and my wife dated for a whole year, she would not give me no pussy. Me and my wife hung out one Saturday night and she got sloppy drunk and passed out in my momma’s house and I got that pussy. She was fucking me back and all that but she was really drunk. I asked her yesterday, ‘Yo, did I rape you the first time we ever had sex?’ And she goes, ‘I mean in hindsight, yeah.”
However, the clip came on the heels of the resurfacing of another clip from the 2015 podcast, where the radio host discussed giving a woman Spanish Fly, prior to their sexual encounter. Although Charlamagne maintained the sex was consensual, he did admit the girl did not remember the encounter, but she was not passed out.
As the clip made its rounds on the internet, a spokesperson for the radio host said the entire story was taken “out of context,” adding that the two Brilliant Idiot hosts, “were actually discussing rape culture, which was a newer understanding at that time not usually discussed openly.” But, the host also took to his podcast to clear his name and apologize for joking about the matter.
“I posted this today because I wanted to address some clips that have been floating around from the podcast, as well as VladTV, where I failed to productive mature conversations around issues that demand respect,” he said. “Back in 2015, I attempted to have a dialogue about rape culture with an emphasis on the role men play…I can honestly say that I communicated that all wrong.”
“I don’t think those kind of conversations should happen in this space, even though I’ve always been an open book and I strive to use my life an example for others, but I didn’t get it right with this one and I have to apologize for that,” he said. “For the record, in 1997 I was having consensual sex with a young lady, after we went to the sex store, key word we, and got Spanish Fly, which is an aphrodisiac not a drug…we were both aware we were gonna put this in a bottle of Brandy, which is why we got the Cola flavor, but I didn’t explain that situation well at all back in 2015,” he said, as he continued with an apology for an even older clip about hitting a girl when he was 16.

Despite his explanation though, the host took to his place of work to clear his name, once and for all, in regards to his comments about his wife. In fact, he even called his wife to clear it up.
“That’s not what happened, we both know what happened and I was not passed out. I was very coherent, like enough for me to lift off my hips so you could take my panties off.”
