Colin Kaepernick Items to be Displayed in BLM Collection At Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture

Kaepernick

Although Colin Kaepernick has yet to be picked up for the forthcoming season, his fight for racial equality has continued off the field. However, for those who remain on the field, many have continued Kaepernick’s efforts in his absence. Several black football players have joined in on national anthem protest and their white teammates and co-workers have joined in solidarity, as they recognize the importance of the demonstration.

As the movement expands, Kaepernick’s efforts have not gone unnoticed – in fact, they have been widely recognized and will be for years to come, as the National Museum of African American History has announced that items related to his protest will put on display in the museum.

“The National Museum of African American History and Culture has nearly 40,000 items in our collection,” Damion Thomas, the museum’s sports curator, said. “The Colin Kaepernick collection is in line with the museum’s larger collecting efforts to document the varied areas of society that have been impacted by the Black Lives Matter movement.”

Items such as Kaepernick’s game-worn jersey, shows and a picture donated by Harry Edwards will be displayed in the BLM section of the museum.
