Comedian Kathy Griffin Says She Wishes She Were A “First Amendment Hero” Like Colin Kaepernick

Comedian Kathy Griffin says she wishes she were a First Amendment hero” like #ColinKaepernick.

Kaepernick not only won our hearts on the field playing ball for the NFL, but he also gave us hope for change after he began taking a knee during the National Anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice. After the NFL let Kaepernick go, he became a figure of social justice, eventually partnering with big-name companies like Nike to advance his movement.

Griffin seemingly compared Kaepernick’s efforts to being an opportunity rather than a social impact. “I wish that I was Colin Kaepernick and I wish that I was seen as a First Amendment hero to the tune of Nike giving me a $100 million deal or whatever,” Griffin said in an interview with Prune Magazine on Friday.

Earlier this year, the NFL settled a lawsuit with Kaepernick, who had accused the league of colluding against him. Griffin faced scrutiny back in 2017 after she posted a photo of her with a bloody, beheaded #DonaldTrump. Since then, Griffin lost hosting jobs and said that she was effectively “blacklisted” from Hollywood. However, the comedian just completed an international “comeback” comedy tour and released a self-produced documentary, titled “Life on the D-List.”
