Dallas Officer Shoots and Kills Man In His Own Home After She Mistakes Apartment For Her Own

Thursday night, tragedy struck in Dallas after a police officer shot a man inside his own home, thinking it was her own. 

According to ABC News, the officer, whose name has yet to be released, was returning home from work when she entered a home she thought was hers, just two blocks from the police headquarters. 

In the incident, the officer opened fire on the 26-year-old resident, who has since been identified as Botham Jean. When she realized she’d made a mistake, she reported the incident and told the responding officers that she thought she was in her own home. 

Upon arrival, officials administered aid to the victim before he was transported to a local hospital, where he died. As for the unnamed officer, she’s been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. 

“We still have a lot to do in this investigation,” Sgt. Warren Mitchell said of the incident. “So there’s a lot of information I understand you guys want, but this is all we can give you at this time.” 

According to reports, it remains unclear how the officer got into the victim’s home.
