Are You Down To Date Someone With An STI? Let’s Talk

So you go on a date with an attractive male or female. You guys have great conversation and end up going on more dates. At this point, you’ve learned a lot about this individual that really intrigues you and you are ready to seriously pursue this person and maybe even take the relationship to a sexual level.

One way or another, this person tells you they have an STI that is not curable. What do you realistically do? I’m going to play Devil’s advocate.  Keep in mind you were ready to exclusively date this person. Also keep in mind how hard it is to find someone you genuinely connect with these days. There are precautions that can be taken to prevent transmitting STI’s and while sex is important to a lot of us, a relationship is not created or maintained solely by sex. What if this person is your future husband/wife?

Do you admire and respect the fact that you were made aware?  The fact is that 1 in 4 people have genital herpes. That means that there are probably a lot of people who don’t warn potential partners. According to The Centers for Disease Control, over 50 percent of the United States population that is sexually active will become infected with an STD in their lifetime.

Regardless, we encourage all sexually active adults to be sexually responsible. Have these conversations. Get answers to your questions. Protect yourself and your sexual partner(s). Don’t forget to get checked for STI’s annually.

So what do you guys think? Are you going to the doctor with bae or are you letting it burn and walking away?
