Last week, a 22-year-old black man was killed after a police chase turned into a violet altercation with narcotics detectives. In the incident, according to CNN, Keeven Robinson was under investigation by the cops for dealing, which prompted undercover detectives to track him down in an attempt to arrest.

Eventually, cops caught up with Robinson, but a struggle ensued as the cops tried to handcuff him. According to the department’s lieutenant, once Robinson was cuffed, the officials noticed that he was not breathing, which prompted them to attempt several life-saving techniques before he was taken to a hospital, where he died, NBC reports.

Since then, the Jefferson Parish coroner has ruled Robinson’s death a homicide, as an autopsy revealed severe injuries to Robinson’s neck, which are reportedly consistent with compressional asphyxia

“We’re confident at the end of our process that that is going to be the cause of death,” Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich said. “The manner of death at this point is homicide.”

In the meantime, police and prosecutors are still investigating to determine if a crime actually took place, as the forensic finding of homicide is different from legal. As a result, the FBI has joined the investigation into Robinson’s death, especially since all four detectives involved are white. They have all been placed on desk duty.
