Double Standard for Chosing a Wife Among “Veterans” of the Game?

With the recent uproar regarding Lamar Odom’s, very open and very rapid, upcoming nuptials to Khloe Kardashian. Many are wondering just what did she do, say or whatever to land the heart of Odom in such a short amount of time, with such a long roster of her own trailing behind her. I’m not calling names here but she is widely known for dating rich men particularly athletes and celebrities in short time spans. And while there are many people out there blasting her and calling her out, I wonder just what Lamar must be thinking and why he chose her to be his wife.

With the dozens of other women out there for him to chose from he chose someone that has made many wonder about what men “really” want versus what they “claim” they want.

Now look I get it, I’m sure he loves her, knows what he’s doing and wants to be with Khloe. As I’m sure goes for her too. However, do you think he remembers or even cares that his new bride is linked to so many popular men in some close relationships to that of his with her?

Earlier this year she dated NFL player Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Derrick Ward. Shortly before that, she dated NBA Houston Rockets player Rashad McCants, who denies they actually had a relationship but it’s listed that they were together sometime between 2008-2009. She’s also linked to Mathieu Shrever, popular DJ and Music Producer.

Now, these are the“relationships” that she has admittedly been in, however, the list of guys she’s “allegedly” been with include: Young Jeezy, she openly slobbed Terrence J down on her television show, for attention and rating no less, snd dude has a girlfriend. Outside of her list of men, she really isn’t known for much other than being the daughter of a wealthy family and bringing cocaine into a radio station on national television. Oh and how can I forget her “dealings” with Omarion which received a lot of attention after, her equally delightful sister Kim, suggested she get him back with some “fried chicken and a “g-string”. And while the entire world was pissed about the “fried chicken” comment, because I mean what better way to reel in black men then with some good ole fried chicken, most people missed the obvious disturbing idea of her getting naked for a little boy at the time.

It’s that mentality that makes me wonder what Lamar Odom could possibly be thinking marrying a woman who just might believe that fried chicken and p*ssy really is all he needs in life to be happy. But I digress as these are clearly the attributes he deems worthy of a future wife.

On the other hand I think about women like Gabrielle Union who after divorcing her husband, former NFL running back Chris Howard, in 2006 after a 5 year marriage, and hasn’t been able to come close to such luck when it comes to the many men she’s dated. I love Gabby, because she represents to me the typical single black woman. Young, independent, successful woman whose beauty and ambition make men flock to her.

Sadly, none of these men ever seem to want to marry her and it really confuses me. In the 3 years that she’s been divorced she’s been called a home wrecker, a gold digger and the list goes on, when in reality she ACTUALLY has a career, along with her own accomplishments and can at least bring something to the table. Yet she always seems to come up on the wrong side of the game when depicted by men and people in the media.

Gabrielle has “allegedly” dated names like Jason Kidd, Derek Jeter, Ludacris, Darren Sharper, Jamie Foxx and of course most recently her public yet “secret” relationship with NBA Miami Heat player Dwayne Wade.

Now call it what you want to, but I don’t see the difference here in the roster of men. Both women clearly get around and have had their share of balleriffic wood. I do however, see the difference in the lifestyle and races of these women, and I seriously wonder if wifing a black woman who’s your equal on some levels, but that has also been around the block a little, more of a burden for us then it is for other races of women?

Are we getting the short end of the stick here on this one? Or am I reaching with this one? Share your thoughts…
