Floyd Mayweather Says Conor McGregor’s Rising Fame is Due to Race, McGregor Claps Back – blogged by @LoveRubyWoo

Conor McGregor has gained increasing recognition over the last couple of months, especially after becoming the reigning UFC featherweight champion this past December. Ever since his shocking 13-second defeat of former number one fighter Jose Aldo, the Irish MMA fighter has risen to fame and garnered much attention and praise from the public. Just this week, it was announced that McGregor has been given the honor of being one of the fighters headlining UFC 197.

Floyd Mayweather has always been one to speak his mind and in a recent interview with FightHype.com, he did not hold back on sharing his opinion about why McGregor has been so successful. Mayweather argued that racism is still very prevalent in boxing and MMA and he used McGregor as a prime example to prove his point.

“They say McGregor talks a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I’m cocky and arrogant,” Mayweather said. “So biased! Like I said before, all I’m saying is this, I ain’t racist at all, but I’m telling you racism still exists.”

McGregor caught wind of Floyd’s comments and took to his Facebook page on Friday to address the championship boxer.

“Floyd Mayweather, don’t ever bring race into my success again. I am an Irishman. My people have been oppressed our entire existence. And still very much are. I understand the feeling of prejudice. It is a feeling that is deep in my blood. In my family’s long history of warfare there was a time where just having the name ‘McGregor’ was punishable by death. Do not ever put me in a bracket like this again.” McGregor then challenged Mayweather to a fight, telling him, “The game answers to me now”.

Does Floyd make a good point or do you think McGregor rightfully deserves all the success that has come his way?
