Former Eagles RB’s Daughter Dies After Accidentally Strangling Herself

It’s never a good feeling to lose a child, especially a small child during the holidays. Ex-Philadelphia Eagles running back, Reno Mahe is now having to deal with this devastating feeling after his three year old, Elsie,  accidentally strangled herself while playing in window blinds.

The tragic accident happened at the Mahe family’s Utah home on November 22. Elsie was playing with a friend when somehow the cord from the window blinds became twisted and wrapped around her neck. The family does not know how long the toddler was entangled.  Sunny Mahe, Elsie’s mother, began performing CPR until paramedics arrived. She was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City where she was pronounced brain dead.

On Tuesday, November 29, Reno Mahe broke the news of Elsie’s death to family and friends via a heartbreaking post on Instagram. “Our Elsie girl has officially been released to heaven — at least from a worldly, paperwork stand point. Her second neurological death exam was also positive for brain death,” he wrote. “We feel peace and we are again so grateful for the privilege of being Elsie’s parents.”

Elsie was the second youngest of eight children.

Reno Mahe played with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2003 to 2007. He now coaches running backs at Brigham Young University.

Our prayers are with the Mahe family in this tough time.

6:03 Our Elsie girl has officially been released to heaven – at least from a worldly, paperwork stand point. Her second neurological death exam was also positive for brain death. We feel peace and we are again so grateful for the privilege of being Elsie’s parents. She continues to sprinkle love and hope across the world and I am in awe of the Lord and His marvelous plan for my sweet girl. We will be working closely with the donation team for the next couple of days, so we have a few days to postpone making funeral plans. But as those dates and decisions are made, we will keep you informed. This picture was drawn by my oldest daughter, Evie. Not many people know that a little over a year ago I had a miscarriage. That is the angel waiting behind Christ.
