Georgia Woman Charged With Murder After Dropping 3-Month-Old Baby During Fight With Another Woman

A Georgia woman has been charged with murder after she dropped her baby during a fight with another woman, which resulted in the child’s death.

26-year-old Karen Lashun Harrison is currently in police custody on murder charges, as well as felony child cruelty and simple battery, according to a statement from the Moultrie Police Department.

It’s unclear what led to the altercation, but footage obtained by WRAL-TV shows the two women arguing when Harrison is hit in the face with a shopping bag. The women begin to fight when the baby falls from Harrison’s arms and onto the pavement. The two continued to fight after the baby falls and a witness intervenes, picking up the baby and trying to stop the altercation.

Harrison didn’t take the baby to the hospital until the next day and lied to authorities, claiming her child had fallen at home from the hands of a friend, according to the Moultrie Police Department. The baby died in the hospital later the same day.

Harrison‘s story that the child fell out of a friend’s arms was corroborated by the friend, Carneata Clark. However, detectives obtained surveillance footage of the fight outside of the hair store, showing the baby in its mother’s arms. Clark was then charged with obstruction of justice and making false police statements.

The other women involved in the fight have not been charged or identified. The investigation is ongoing and police said more arrests are imminent.
