Golf Club Apologizes After Calling Police On Group Of Black Women For Playing “Too Slow”

Pennsylvania golf club has found themselves issuing an apology after calling the police on a group of black women for golfing “too slow”.

“I felt we were discriminated against,” one of the women, Myneca Ojo, told the York Daily Record. “It was a horrific experience.”

The group of women are actually a vetted group of golfers who go by the name of Sisters in the Fairway, per the Daily Journal.

According to the women, they were on the second hole at Grandview Golf Club when they were approached by a man named Steve Chronister, who is the father of one of the club’s co-owners, telling them that they were moving too slowly.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

One woman says that she then asked a club pro in an effort to clarify the complaint and she was told that it was fine because they were moving at the same pace as the group ahead of them. Still, in order to keep down any issues, the women decided to skip the next hole.

After the ninth hole, nine of the women left and two remained on the course to finish the game. At that time, Chronister and his son Jordan, along with several other white men, approached the women yet again telling them that had taken too long of a break between holes and needed to leave. However, according to the women, their break was appropriate, pointing out that the men behind them were still on their beer break.

The club owners informed the women that they had already called the police so the women decided to wait.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Once authorities arrived, no charges were pressed.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“We were called there for an issue, the issue did not warrant any charges,” Northern York County Regional Police Chief Mark Bentzel said. “All parties left and we left as well.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The wife of Jordan Jordan Chronister and co-owner of the club, JJ Chronister, said Sunday she called the women personally to apologize.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“We sincerely apologize to the women for making them feel uncomfortable here at Grandview, that is not our intention in any way,” she told the newspaper. “We want all of our members to feel valued and that they can come out here and have a great time, play golf and enjoy the experience.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Chronister also says she hopes to meet with the women.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

One of the women, Sandra Thompson, feels that more should be done.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“There needs to be something more substantial to understand they don’t treat people in this manner,” she said.
