House Passes Bill To Halt The Acceptance Of Refugees In The U.S.

Just days after local governors began to individually suspend the acceptance of Syrian refugees into their respective states, a new bill has been passed that could suspend things all-together.

With an overwhelming 289-137 vote the House has approved the bill, which could halt the acceptance of refugees into US territory. A total of 242 Republicans and just 47 Democrats voted in favor of the bill. Wednesday (prior to the vote) President Obama promised to veto the bill, however the overwhelming majority vote could override, as the bill still must be voted on by the Senate.

The bill would prohibit any Syrian refugees from entering the country without an extensive investigation of each person. On top of that, every person would also have to be certified by Homeland Security, FBI director, and the National Intelligence director; none of which is easy to access. Refugees currently have to go through a 10-24 month vetting process.
