I Can’t Stand The Young, Thirsty, Rookie Groupie!!

I spend a lot of time around rappers/celebrities, some up and coming and some down and going. In that time I’ve encountered many groupies. I usually welcome groupies. Groupies play a very vital role in the entertainment industry. They basically ARE the entertainment. I respect a good groupie who is on her grind. The one’s I can’t stand are the thirsty rookie groupies that are taking away from the ones who’ve actually studied the art of “groupie-dom”. Allow me to share a story with you:

Some time ago I attended a Method Man and Redman concert in my hometown. While the opening acts were performing my attention immediately went to three young ladies that were directly behind me. They seemed to be a tad “over dressed” for the occasion. You can usually spot a potential groupie by her attire. If a female is wearing a fitted dress, high heels and expensive looking costume jewelry in a room of people rocking skinny jeans, fitted caps and expensive sneakers, you can rest assure you’ve found your groupie. These three young ladies were just that. Dressed as if they were headed to a party, all they talked about all night is how much they LOVED Method Man and Redman. They couldn’t name one song however. They seemed to be new to the groupie game though. A true groupie who has done this before wouldn’t have been BEHIND me at the concert, instead she’d be front and center if not back stage. Another red flag was that they were young. Over the age of 18, but still in the Forever 21 target market.

By the time Meth and Red hit the stage I noticed that the group of three had managed to land on stage as well. During the entire performance I noticed one girl would constantly reach for Redman and constantly touch on him when he got near her. She also danced very over dramatically to get his attention. She clearly has found her prey and it was Reggie Noble. At the end of the show she was extremely hugged up on Redman. I just KNEW that Redman was going to get him some cutty tonight and I wasn’t mad at all. She was a beautiful girl and like I said before, groupies serve a purpose. I notice Redman asks the young lady on the tour bus and to my surprise the young lady declined. Her excuse, “I have to go home, I have work in the morning” ….WHAT?!?!?!?!

I have a few problems with all of this. My main problem is, you went to this concert with the intentions on being a groupie….or at least that’s what you lead the rapper to believe. All the touching, groping, dancing, hugging on him and you did it for what? a photograph? You teased this man all night and possibly cock blocked another groupie simply so you could brag to your friends that you did it? How pathetic!

I’m a firm believer in letting a groupie be a groupie. A real groupie knows the tricks of the trade. She knows what her role is. She f-cks him then leaves and that is understood. A true groupie knows she has work in the morning but will gladly do whatever she needs to do to get her rocks off. A real groupie understands that the artist has been on the road for a while and needs to get a nut in, and she’s fine with that. So why would an amateur waste EVERYONE’s time with her games only to leave the artist pissed that he was basically bamboozled. In this particular case Redman didn’t sweat it, he just filled his tour bus with 3 or 4 replacement chicks.

I’ve come to expect this type of behavior from young amateur groupies. They want to be groupies, but don’t want anyone to think they are groupies. They’ll do everything under the sun to entice the baller, until people start to take notice and start whispering. Young rookie groupies are easily embarrassed by their groupie behavior where as the veteran groupie is pretty blatant with hers. Most likely the veteran groupie will get her way for that reason. Her body language, her words, everything about her screams groupie and she lives up to it. A veteran groupie does not have to chase the Baller because the Baller can easily identify her. He will approach her on his own. I have seen rookie groupies nearly chase down a rapper’s tour bus. If you are doing this you are doing too much.

I guess where I’m going with all of this is that Rookie groupies should either learn the game or keep it moving. Girls like the one at the Redman concert are ruining it for the true groupies. If you don’t intend to smash and you don’t know the lyrics to the artist’s music, you should just stay home.
