Iggy Azalea Says “I Had A Psychotic Breakdown Last Year,” Talks Being Suicidal

There’s no secret 2015 was a rough year for Australian rapper Iggy Azalea.

Recently she sat down with Schön! about how overwhelming 2015 was for her. “Last year, I felt like I was definitely not in control of the media’s narrative of me,” she tells the magazine.

Iggy’s 2015 was widely talked about from her personal appearances to her public feuds with Nicki Minaj, Azealia Banks, Erykah Badu and Britney Spears.

“I had to have a psychotic breakdown last year. I felt tired and stressed out,” Iggy said. Iggy goes on to say this is why she had to cancel her Great Escape tour. It’s also a likely reason that she took a hiatus from social media.

Iggy also spoke with Power 106’s The Cruz Show about these dark moments. “There were times when I just wanted to quit life. Sometimes I’d drive through the canyons to get to my horses and I’d be like, ‘What if I just kept driving off a canyon?'”

Iggy tells Power 106  that it wasn’t necessarily just the comments that got to her, but people in the music industry that made her feel like all of the drama surrounding her was career ending, and for someone in the country on a work visa, she was afraid.

Iggy credits her fiance, Nick Young, for helping her get through the low points and says now that she has taken all of her negative experiences with the media and turned it into inspiration for her new album, Digital Distortion, which is set to drop in May.
