Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Jump The Broom In Extravagant, Expensive $45 Million Royal Wedding

On Saturday morning, the prince of England married his American actress fiancée in a lavish, public, royal event.

Despite the drama surrounding the royal union, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stood before their friends, family and the royal court, as millions watched around the world, to become one.

The high profile celebration was a grand and expensive affair, but despite royal tradition, the Royal Family foot the bill for the event similar to that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who wed in 2011 in a $34 million celebration.

The extravagant event called for the best of the best, from the bride’s Givenchy gown to the couple’s extraordinary wedding cake.

The royal wedding cake, which was made up of layers of lemon sponge cake, soaked in elderflower syrup, filled with Amalfi lemon curd and covered with Swiss meringue elderflower buttercream. Although the price has yet to be revealed, Bride Book estimates the cake to be around $71,600, including the cost for the fresh flowers, the assembly, and delivery of the cake.

As for the dress, Markle walked down the aisle in a Givenchy gown, featuring an open bateau neckline and a triple silk organza underskirt, the Kensington Place revealed, complete with a tiara from Queen Elizabeth and a 16-foot veil detailed with flowers from all 53 countries in the British Commonwealth. Although the price has yet to be revealed, Time reports that a gown of this nature could be priced between $340,000 to $430,000, which is paid by the bride herself.

As for the whole shebang, reports say the wedding will run the royal family about $45.8 million, most of which will go toward security. However, the marquee ($500,000), the food ($686,000), the photographers, the luxury restrooms, the flowers ($157,000), the decoration ($186,000), the invitations ($290,800), the cakes, the music ($430,000), entertainment ($78,800), and wardrobe ($21,000) will cost about $3 million, according to the Bride Book. In regards to the honeymoon, which will reportedly run the new couple $172,000, Markle is expected to foot the bill as a gift to her new husband.
