Mother Arrested After She Was “Aware” of 24-Year-Old Man Impregnating Her 12-Year-Old Daughter

33-year-old Desiree Castaneda was arrested and charged with child negligence after her 12-year-old daughter gave birth to a 24-year-old man’s child.

Online prison records at the Tulsa Police Department showed that Castaneda was arrested on Thursday for one count of enabling child sex abuse.

Her arrest comes weeks after Juan Miranda-Jara, the 24-year-old man, allegedly told authorities that he was the biological father of the 12-year-old’s baby when he brought her to the hospital.

On July 14th, Miranda-Jara was arrested at the hospital shortly after the girl went into labor. According to police, Miranda-Jara admitted to being in a relationship with the girl since October.

Oklahoma has a 16-year-old consent age.

In a news release, Tulsa police said they believe Castaneda and other family members were “aware of the relationship between the victim and Miranda-Jara.”

“The family permitted the relationship, and there are photos of the family throwing a baby shower for the victim and the suspect,” the release read.

According to officials, the girl’s father is presently serving a 12-year sentence for first-degree rape unconnected to the case.

An investigation is now underway.

According to online records, Miranda-Jara’s public defender entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during his arraignment on July 20. On August 26, a preliminary hearing has been scheduled.
