Many celebrities and public figures have taken time to visit Meek Mill since a judge sentenced him to two to four years in prison back in November. Now, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is among the wave of people rooting for authorities to #freemeek.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s just sad,” Kraft said of Mill’s imprisonment. “This guy is a great guy and shouldn’t be here.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kraft, along with Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin visited the Philadelphia native Tuesday.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After the visit, Kraft came to the realization that there needs to be a change in the way that certain people are treated under the criminal justice system.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We have to do something with criminal justice reform,” Kraft said.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He went on to say that he believes #MeekMill will be released from the Philadelphia prison soon.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rubin echoed Kraft’s views on the situation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“This has been a situation where it started with a wrongful conviction and then it ended up with a really bad judge, where everything that could go wrong has gone wrong,” Rubin said.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Rubin, upon his release, Meek Mill is looking to lead a fight for criminal justice reform that will include a change in probation laws that will keep technical violations from leading to long prison sentences.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kraft says he believes Mill will make major moves when he gets out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“And this is what amazed me about his depth and intellect, the 76-year-old said. “When he gets out, he’s going to turn this thing around and inspire a lot of other young people who have been treated unfairly. And he will turn this negative situation into something very positive.”
