Rachel Dolezal, The White Woman Who Posed As Black, Charged With Welfare Fraud After Illegally Receiving Thousands In Public Assistance

Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who posed as a black woman for years, is now facing legal consequences for her fraudulent lifestyle.

In new court documents obtained by the Washington Post, the former NAACP official is accused of illegally receiving $8,847 in food and childcare assistance since August 2015.

According to the publication, Dolezal’s scheme fell apart after an investigator from the Washington Department of Social and Health Service found out she published a book. After further investigation, the investigator learned that “a typical contract would include payments of $10,000 to $20,000 as advances against later royalties.”

Problem is, Dolezal had been claiming a monthly income of less than $500 at that time, from child support. However, she claimed that once she was exposed by her parents for being white, she lost her job and hadn’t been able to find a job, paying for her living expenses “barley, with help from friends and gifts.”

But, according to the Washington Post, that proved to be another lie, as her bank statements revealed that she’d deposited nearly $84,000 between August 2015 and September 2017.

Since Dolezal legally changed her name to Nkechi Diallo back in 2016 to carry on her charade as an African American, she has been charged as “Nkechi Diallo also known as Rachel A. Dolezal” for first-degree theft by welfare fraud, second-degree perjury and false verification for public assistance.  If convicted, she could face up to 15 years in prison and ordered to fork over $8,887 in restitution.
