Rae Carruth Apologizes For The Death Of Pregnant Girlfriend and Says That The Grandmother “Needs To Stop Exploiting His Son For Personal Gain”

Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver, Rae Carruth, has been in prison for the last 17-years for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend back in 1999. With less than a year left of his sentence, the former football player has reached out to the victim’s mother in a handwritten 15-page letter. For the first time, Carruth has spoken out about the murder and accepted full responsibility for the death of Cherica Adams.

“I’m apologizing for the loss of her daughter. I’m apologizing for the impairment of my son. I feel responsible for everything that happened. And I just want her to know that truly I am sorry for everything.”

Carruth is scheduled to be released from prison October 18th. He was sentenced to 18 to 24 years in 2001 after he was found guilty of hiring Van Brett Watkins and Michael Kennedy to murder Adams. Watkins, the shooter, was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years. Kennedy, who drove the car, was released in 2011.

Adams died a month after being shot multiple times. Her son, Chancellor Adams, was born prematurely and suffers from cerebral palsy from the tragic death of his mother.

Now that Chancellor is 18-years-old, Carruth wants to be in his son’s life and wants custody.

“I should be raising my son. His mother should be raising her son. Ms. Adams should not be doing this and I want that responsibility back. “I feel like he might not ever have his mother in his life but he could still have me and I could still make a difference and I don’t think that’s anyone’s responsibility when I’m still here.”

Carruth then goes on to say that he wishes he could go back to 1999 and change the whole situation. “If I could change anything, I’d change the whole situation. His mother would still be here and I wouldn’t be where I’m at. So that’s what I’d want to change. I want the incident to never have happened at all. I let him down as he came into this world and the only way that I can make that right and the only way I can work out my relationship with my son is to be there for him.”

In the closing of his letter, Carruth switches things up and says that Adams’ mother, Saundra Adams is exploiting his son’s condition for personal gain and fifteen more minutes of fame. He states that if she has truly forgiven him like she says she has, then she needs to follow through and allow him to be apart of Chancellor’s life.

Carruth is planning to move back to California after being released and hopes that his son will one day be a part of it.
