Second Witness Recants Testimony That Identifies C-Murder As Shooter In 2002 Murder Of Teen

On January 19, 2002, rapper #CMurder was arrested in connection to the beating and fatal shooting of 16-year-old Steve Thomas, at the Platinum Club. Eight months later, the rapper was convicted, however, he was later granted a new trial after claims of misconduct at the hands of the prosecution.

In 2009, the new trial began, and ended with a second-degree murder conviction and a life sentence. But now, after years of legal back and forth, from appeals to claims of irregularities in the legal process, new developments in the case may prove to be beneficial for the jailed-rapper.

Just six days after a witness recanted his testimony that identified the rapper as the gunman in the 2002 shooting, the other witness has also recanted his statement, claiming he, too, lied when he named Murder as the shooter.

Although Darnell Jordan testified in both trials, in the 2009 retrial, he testified that he worked as a bouncer at the now-closed Platinum Club at the time of the incident, and saw Murder, whose real name is Corey Miller, kill Steve Thomas inside the club. But now, according to NOLA.com, Jordan says the detectives at the time “tricked” him into identifying Miller as the shooter.

“I am certain that Corey Miller did not shoot Steve Thomas,” Jordan said in a letter to the court on Monday.

Jordan’s new statements came days after Kenneth Jordan, the other witness in the case, signed a similar affidavit accusing the detectives and prosecutors of forcing him to make false statements, and threatening him with charges on another case. The two witnesses are not related.

Now, Miller’s defense attorney is working to get his client’s conviction vacated, and a new trial.
