Security Cameras, Text Messages and Old Friends: The Aaron Hernandez Trial

There is no gun. His fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, most likely won’t incriminate him. And, well, THERE’S STILL NO GUN! With the lack of evidence, prosecutors began to get desperate. But is there a chance they’ve gotten a lead – finally?

The prosecuting team presented text messages, from Aaron Hernandez to Odin Lloyd, the deceased victim, arranging a meeting. A transcript of the messages were not disclosed but we do know that a T-Mobile employee testified about the texting records. He noted that they were sent on June 16, the night before Lloyd was murdered. The texts were found in Lloyd’s phone. Prosecutors now suspect Hernandez, along with two other people, picked Lloyd up from his home and took him to the industrial park where he was killed. Hernandez was seen whispering to his attorney when the messages were brought up. To make matters worse, now one of his maids claim she saw him “touching” his basement security camera the day after Lloyd was fatally shot.

Oh but I’m not done yet. The prosecutors filed a motion to introduce the tale of Alexander Bradley – a man who claims Hernandez shot him in the head just four months before Lloyd was murdered. The story has it that Hernandez and Bradley, friends at the time, were in a car outside of a strip club in Florida when the two got into a disagreement, Feb. 13, 2013. The accuser claims Hernandez then pulled over into an “industrial area” (sound familiar?) shot him, between the eyes, and “dumped [his] body on the ground before fleeing the scene.” He was found in an alley behind a John Deere store later that night. Unfortunately, Bradley never pressed charges or worked with the police, and Hernandez walked. Deadspin.com says Bradley is planning to sue, though.  This is the second time prosecutors have tried to bring this to the attention of the jury, as the judge first stated that there was no relevance and because Hernandez’s attorneys kept insinuating he’d never shoot a “friend.”

And if you thought this trial was the end of Hernandez and his troubles, think again. Immediately following this one, he’ll head straight back into a courtroom for the double murders of two men in 2012.

Somebody, anybody, take the wheel.
