Sex Crimes Detective Sentenced To Three Years In Prison For Raping Teen Sexual Assault Victim

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, sex crimes detective, has been sentenced to three years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl in 2017 during his investigation into a previous sexual assault incident she reported.

Ventura County District Attorney Gregory Totten announced in a news release that Neil David Kimball, 46, pleaded guilty to a lewd act with a child and unlawful intercourse back in July. On Thursday, Kimball was sentenced to three years in prison, the maximum sentence for sexually assaulting the teen girl. In addition, Kimball was ordered to register as a sex offender and pay the victim $50,000 for her pain and suffering, Yahoo reports.

According to a release from the district attorney, Kimball met the teen when he started working as a detective in the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau. The release states that Kimball “befriended the victim” during his investigation. Totten explains in previous release that Kimball sexually assaulted the girl while she was bound and tied. The New York Times reports the incident took place in Kimball’s trailer in Camarillo.

The girl’s father told another investigator about Kimball’s assault, who eventually took over the case about the sexual assault. Kimball was arrested in November 2018. Kimball, who worked for the department for 20 years, was initially charged with forcible rape. However, prosecutors were unable to confirm if the former detective had used force. On July 9, he pleaded guilty to committing a lewd act with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse as a part of his plea deal.

Kimball has been accused of sexual misconduct on more than one occasion by different women during his career with the force.
