Some Mindsets You Need To Leave In 2018 (Part 1)

As the end of the year approaches, it’s time to start thinking about our new year resolutions. Now, I don’t usually make lists, however, as a Life Coach I inspire people to complete Vision Boards and other visual tools, but whatever works best for you is fine. This year, I sure wish some folks would really put more effort into being a better version of themselves. Here are a few things I personally don’t want to see, read or hear about in 2019.

Illegal Butt Enhancements

Granted, I wish I had a little……ok a lot more ass and hips than I was born with, but I don’t want to see another woman die, or come close to death over superficial insecurity. There are board-certified physicians that can legally enhance your physique, and while they are costly, they are safer than the bargain basement butt shot. If you really want to save money, invest in yourself, boost your self-esteem, and muster up enough strength to tell people to take you as you are or leave you alone. Believe me, you’d be better off without them.

Dark Skin vs. Light Skin

C’mon, I’m not even going to waste my time on this one….. Just stop it. Seriously.

Sharing Videos of Black Youth Fighting

There are a variety of media outlets that specialize in this type of “entertainment” however, there are two things that disturb me the most about fight videos. First, the “videographer,” it’s disgusting that there is actually a person willing and ready to record such a brutal display of human behavior. Second, the fact that the viewers….people like you, share these videos so much so that they go viral. There are a million “truths” in the hood that can be shared, and recorded for the world to see. There are a million unjust things that go on within our community that need to be displayed but, these fights aren’t one of them. It’s hard to scream that #BlackLivesMatter when black culture perpetuates violence towards one another.

Bad or Absentee Parenting

Being a parent is one of the hardest things you will ever attempt to do. It’s the ultimate sacrifice and display of love. It’s really not for everyone but, you CAN NOT back out once the child is here. You are responsible, and it is not optional. Women, stop glorifying being single moms and make that man aware that his presence as a dad is required regardless as to whether he is “your man” or not. Men, you may not be mentally ready, but STEP UP. Be present and stop running away.

Side Chicks, Thots, and Hoe Culture

A woman shouldn’t have to be defined by  or held to a standard of male fantasy. Especially when the desire is simply sexual. Stooping to new lows may get you one, but it’s not enough to keep the kind of man you want around. Quality over quantity ladies.

Political Ignorance

Growing up, I remember telling my grandmother that if I grew up in her time I woulda followed Malcom X or been a Black Panther. Well, looking at the state of our society, race relations are once again at an all time high and in spite of cultural advances we have a long way to go. It’s not enough to protest, hold up signs or organize vigils for yet another lost life at the hands of hatred. Arm yourselves with knowledge. Educate your children. Know the laws they rule us by. Protect yourselves and start holding your leaders accountable local, state, and legislative. Start businesses and increase your economic buying power. Together, we are a force to be reckoned with which is why so much energy is spent to divide us.
