Passengers on Spirit Airlines were freaking out when a bat was spotted during a flight from North Carolina to New Jersey.
Passengers posted videos to social media of the incident while screaming, laughing, offering suggestions and yelling, “It’s the Batmobile!” as the bat flew up and down the cabin.
On Friday night, Spirit Airlines spokesman, Derek Dombrowski, confirmed the “stowaway bat” found its way onto a flight from Charlotte, N.C., to Newark. He stated that the company believes the bat flew into an overhead bin in Charlotte while crews performed maintenance overnight, according to Washington Post.
Passenger Peter Scattini took to Twitter and stated that the bat was trapped. “Eventually someone trapped it between a book & a cup and then locked it in one of the restrooms for the remainder of the trip,” he wrote. Scattini added that the airlines offered reimbursement for the flight and a $50 voucher.
Dombrowski confirmed that the bat was “corralled into a lavatory” and taken away by animal control officers once the plane landed. “As a precaution, workers searched and disinfected the plane,” the spokesman continued.
No one was hurt during the flight, including the bat.
Here’s a crazy flight experience. A bat was on the plane headed to Newark. It came out while the plane was in the air. Luckily no one was hurt. One of the passengers caught it and put it in the bathroom. @karenhunter pic.twitter.com/lV0HgHptjY
