Students Participate In Nationwide Walkout To Call Out Congress For Stricter Gun Control Laws

Thousands of students across the country have banned together to take action against gun violence in the wake of the Valentine’s Day massacre that left 17 people dead.

More than 3,000 walkout events are scheduled for Wednesday, exactly one month after the deadly shooting.  Students in communities from coast to coast and in Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands have used the 17-minute protest to pay tribute to the victims of the high school shooting, all while making a strong statement in solidarity for stricter gun control laws.

The ENOUGH National School Walkout began at 10 a.m. in every time zone, and lasts 17 minutes, one minute for each victim in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

“Remember why we are walking out,” Stoneman Douglas survivor Lauren Hogg wrote on Twitter today. “We are walking out for my friends that passed, all children that have been taken because of gun violence. We are walking out for the empty desks in my classes, and the unsaid goodbyes. This epidemic of School shootings must stop.”
