Vic Mensa Apologizes To XxxTentacion’s Mother For BET Cypher Diss While Doubling Down On Message And Condemning Those That Uphold Abusers

Over the weekend, BET filmed their annual Hip Hop Award ceremony, which infamously features cyphers from popular rappers and singers.

Although the cyphers are normally previously recorded, they are aired for the present audience during the show’s recording.

During one of the cyphers, rapper Vic Mensa allegedly took aim at deceased rapper XxxTentacion for his past reports of domestic abuse.

The lines were apparently upsetting to some, considering XxxTentacion’s mother was present in the audience to accept an award for “Best New Artist” on her son’s behalf.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

DJ Scheme, who was in the attendance for the taping of the show, took to Twitter to air his grievances with Mensa’s freestyle.

“yo bro how u gone say ‘Your favorite rapper is an abuser’ and then follow it with a line saying ‘some shit X some shit so I won’t live long’ u can deny it but everyone who was there heard that shit,” Scheme wrote.

Mensa later took to Instagram to double down on his take on XxxTentacion. But he also acknowledged that he meant no disrespect to his mother and had no idea that she was present.

“It was pre-recorded weeks ago, and I had no idea that a grieving mother would be in the audience to honor her lost son,” Mensa stayed. “I never intended to disrespect her, and I offer my deepest condolences for her loss at the hands of gun violence. However, I vehemently reject the trend in hip-hop of championing abusers and I will not hold my tongue about it.”

Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences.
