White Manager Calls Police On Couple For #DiningWhileBlack After They Refuse To Give Up Their Seats For A White Customer

A Texas restaurant is under fire for its outdated customer service after footage surfaced of a white manager trying to kick out a black couple to accommodate a white restaurant regularly.

Shaun King posted the video on Tuesday, which showed the Sambuca 360 manager raising his voice at Johnny Wimbrey, as he and his wife prepared to have dinner and drinks at the restaurant. However, the disturbing incident occurred on Saturday after the couple was already seated with menus.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

According to reports, just as the couple prepared to order, the manager approached and demanded they move their seat to accommodate a white restaurant regularly. But, Wimbrey quickly declined the manager’s request, which led to the manager’s anger.

“I said, ‘No I think we want to sit here, We have a great view. It’s only a table for two.’ We declined the offer respectfully,” Wimbrey recalled.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As the camera rolled, the manager then tried to kick the couple out for their refusal to switch seats.

“You can pay the tab,” the manager said. “You are leaving.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As Wimbrey questioned the manager’s motives, he then tried to accuse the couple of trespassing before he threatened to phone officials.  But, before the situation escalated any further the couple left.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“The Plano police show up. They jump out of the car and I thought what would happen if I didn’t leave?,” Wimbrey said  as he revealed the cause for the commotion.  “I do believe it’s because of who I am and how I look that they asked me to move tables,” WImbrey, who is a popular motivational speaker said.

In turn, the restaurant released a statement, describing the incident as miscommunication.

“We apologize for the miscommunication with our guest on Saturday night, which resulted from a mix-up at our host stand. Sambuca has no tolerance for discrimination and always wants to make every guest feel welcome and respected.”
