WorkingWhileBlack: White Woman Calls the Cops On a Black Contractor Because He Was Doing His Job

For some reason, white people just can’t let Black people live – literally and figuratively. The latest case of #WhileBlack is the incident of a Black investor from Memphis who was on the job inspecting a house when a white woman called the police on him.

Michael Hayes is a real estate contractor who was sent to take pictures of a home his company was looking to flip, when a white neighbor threatened to call the police on him on May 5. Hayes also had all his documentation to confirm who he was and what he does. Of course, when the police arrived, he did what most Black people do when police become involved – he started recording the incident.

“The neighbor ran outside as I was removing the board from the door of the vacant house,” the man said in a YouTube clip. “She yelled at me and asked me what the f**k I was doing,” said Hayes. He added, He continued, “I very calmly explained to her that I have a contract on the house and I was there to do my inspection. I showed her my business sign that I place in the yards of vacant properties so people will know why I am there.”

But that clearly wasn’t good enough for her as she proceeded to scream that Hayes “had no right to be there.” Once the cops arrived, Hayes explained the situation to police who then addressed the woman. In the video, you can see police telling her he can take however long he wants while on the job. The incident ends with Hayes finishing taking pictures of the home and going on with his day. Hayes noted a complaint with the officer in regards to the woman as well.
