Lil’ Wayne Talks His Return To Hip Hop, Lawsuits, Never Retiring And Calls Nicki The Forever “Queen Of Hip Hop”

Weezy F. Baby, the “F” is for finally, he’s back! In a new interview with #Billboard Magazine #LilWayne talks reclaiming his time in the music industry, Nicki Minaj being the “Queen of Hip-Hop,” lawsuits, Young Money and more.

Wayne has blessed the cover of Billboard’s October 2018 issue, and in doing so, he filled the magazine in on everything he’s been up to over the last few years, including finally being freed from his legal battles with #CashMoneyRecords. The nearly six-year long lawsuit over a breach of contract and failure to pay royalties resulted in the destruction of his friendship with Cash Money Records co-founder and friend Birdman. He says his children helped him overcome the legal dispute.

“My four jewels — when I FaceTime one of them, man, everything goes away,” he says. “I didn’t let it get to me too much. Just the confidence in knowing that there’s always a tomorrow and I’m going to make sure that tomorrow is bright.” While he and Birdman seem to have reconciled their beef, Weezy says the way he moves around people has changed forever. “Not even just with [Birdman], but my relationships with a lot of people have become different, just because of how different I work now,” he explains. “I’m submerged in everything about myself, trying to be better at who I am. It’s something where you have to cut some things off.”

The rapper then opened up about his love and admiration for his Young Money artist Minaj who he says will always be “queen.” “I think Nicki is still the queen of hip-hop simply because who she is…Call it bias or whatever but to me, she’s the queen, and she’ll forever be the queen just because of how hard she works and what she came from.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Wayne is extremely proud of his artists, including Drake, but says they won’t be exempt from his powerful comeback. “I’m coming straight at Drake’s and Nicki’s neck, Lord have mercy,” he laughs. “I’m talkin’ ’bout machetes. I’ma out-sing Drake, I’ma date Nicki. It’s goin’ down.” The 35-year-old rapper added that retiring is simply out of the question. “I do think about retirement,” he admits. “I think about how I don’t think I ever will.”
