More than 400 people have been rescued since Florence made landfall and dumped several inches of unrelenting rain. Military officials report that the slow movement of Tropical Storm Florence is making it difficult to get helicopters out for rescues in hard-hit areas.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is warning residents in the southwest part of the state to prepare for flooding and possible landslides early next week from the remaining bands of Florence. He said in a news release, “Now is not the time to let our guard down.”
