Halsey Calls Out Victoria’s Secret For Lack Of Inclusivity One Month After Fashion Show Performance

Last month, Halsey hit the stage for the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which featured performances by Halsey, herself, the Chainsmokers, Shawn Mendes, and more, with a high profile model class, including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Winnie Harlow, and more. 

On Sunday, the show aired, reigniting widespread backlash over the company’s lack of diversity, which in turn, prompted the “Bad at Love” songstress to speak out. 

“I have adored the Victoria’s Secret fashion show since I was young. Performing this year alongside other amazing artists and hard working models/friends was supposed to be the best night of my year,” she wrote on Instagram. “However, after I filmed the performance, some comments were made regarding the show that I simply cannot ignore.” 

Though Halsey failed to identify the comments, in particular, the songstress appeared to address the comments made by Vice President of public relations, Ed Razek, in a Vogue interview. 

“Shouldn’t you have transsexuals in the show? No. No, I don’t think we should,” he said, using the outdated term to describe trans people. “Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy. It’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is.”

“As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have no tolerance for a lack of inclusivity. Especially not one motivated by stereotype,” Halsey continued. “If you are a trans person reading this, and these comments have made you feel alienated or invalidated, please know that you have allies. We stand in solidarity, and complete and total acceptance is the only “fantasy” that I support.”
