Iconic indie filmmaker, Spike Lee, who gave us one of this year’s biggest movies, ”BlacKkKlansman,” will receive the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Career Achievement Award at the 30th annual awards gala on January 3rd.
Festival chairman Harold Matzner said, “Spike Lee has been an outstanding warrior for equal rights while creating an iconic body of film and television work over his 30-year career. In BlacKkKlansman, Lee directs one of his best and most provocative films about an African-American detective and a white detective who are determined to infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado Springs. It is our great honor to present the Career Achievement Award to Spike Lee.”
The outspoken filmmaker is known for his abstract way of storytelling through film, with favorites such as “She’s Gotta Have It” and “Do the Right Thing” to “Malcolm X”, “Get on the Bus” and “Summer of Sam” then on to the more recent “OldBoy”, “Inside Man” and “Chi-Raq”.
It was also announced by the PSIFF that Regina King would receive the Chairman’s Award and #Greenbook Director/co-writer Peter Farrelly along with stars #ViggoMortensen and #MahershalaAli will receive the Vanguard Award.
Congratulations to #SpikeLee on an achievement well deserved!
