The 61st Annual Grammy Award Winners And The History They Made

The 2019 Grammy Awards produced some magical moments for some of our culture’s biggest artists. In addition to winning the coveted music industry award, a few also walked away with the historic titles.

The all deserving Cardi B had perhaps the most spectacular night, giving a performance of a lifetime and taking home the Grammy award for ‘Best Rap Album’ for “Invasion Of Privacy.” Cardi’s win made her the first solo female to win that award.

Another hip hop artist who had an amazing Grammy night was Childish Gambino, who took home four awards including two of the highest honors, ‘Record Of The Year’ and ‘Song Of The Year’ for “This Is America,” making him the first rap act to ever do so. Glover also won ‘Music Video Of The Year’ and ‘Rap/Sung Performance’ for the same single. 

Jay Z and Beyonce, also known as The Carters, won a Grammy for their ‘Everything Is Love’ album, taking home the ‘Urban Contemporary Album’ award. HER earned two Grammy awards for ‘R&B Album’ and ‘R&B Performance’ with #DanielCaesar. 2018 new artist, Ella Mai, received her first Grammy for “Boo’d Up” in the ‘R&B Song’ category.

Comedian Dave Chappelle won the Grammy for ‘Comedy Album,’ Black Panther won the Grammy for ‘Score Soundtrack,’ Quincy Jones doc “Quincy” won for best ‘Music Film’ and Pharrell Williams won the Grammy for best ‘Producer Non-Classical.’

Drake won the ‘Rap Song’ Grammy award for “Gods Plan,” and while delivering a powerful speech, the recording academy cut him short. (Everyone noticed). And let’s not forget how Future, Jay Rock, and Kendrick Lamar all won the ‘Rap Performance’ award for “King’s Dead,” which also was an additional win for the Black Panther Soundtrack.
