Police in North Carolina are searching for a man in connection with the shooting of former NFL quarterback Anthony Wright.
According to the Concord Police Department, Wright and a 47 year old man named William had a verbal argument at a home in Concord on Monday. William is reportedly the ex of Wright’s current girlfriend. Police said the argument began when William showed up to drop off his child.
“An argument ensued, and shots were fired,” the police press release states. Officers responded to a report of gunshots at 12:49 p.m. and found Wright with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and, according to police, is now in stable condition.
Police said William is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. They say he was armed with a handgun during the shooting and was last seen driving a black 2015 Honda Accord. These are police allegations, and William had not been convicted of anything at the time of this report.
Wright is a former University of South Carolina quarterback who played eight seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants, WHIO reports. He also played for the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, according to the Associated Press.
