A Las Vegas security guard named Kyle has filed a criminal complaint against Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, and Elliott’s legal team is pushing back hard.
According to CBS Sports, Kyle accuses Elliott of shoving him into a guardrail at the Electric Daisy Carnival in the early morning hours of May 19. Elliott’s attorneys, Scott Rosenblum and Jason Lampert, say the complaint has no merit and call it an attempt at extortion.
In a statement, the legal team said Elliott “has been the target of extortion” over the past several weeks and that the complaint is the latest attempt. The statement added that Elliott and his team are in contact with the proper authorities and are cooperating with their investigations.
TMZ previously released video of the incident that appeared to show Elliott bumping Kyle and knocking him back into a guardrail. Elliott was briefly handcuffed that night but was not arrested or charged. Kyle told Fox 5 in Las Vegas that he was only trying to keep Elliott out of a restricted area. He said he told Elliott he was a big man in the NFL before Elliott came toward him and shoved him over a metal railing.
Elliott has apologized publicly, but Kyle told KCBS the apology did not feel sincere. He also said he filed the complaint in part because the NFL did not discipline Elliott.
According to CBS Sports, after a meeting between Commissioner Roger Goodell and Elliott, the league announced there would be no suspension because it found Elliott did not violate the personal conduct policy. The matter is now with Las Vegas police, and nothing has been decided.
