Why do we put so much emphasis on the lifestyle associated with being a “boss,” and so little on the tenacity it takes to become one?
We see so many glamorized depictions of entrepreneurship on social media, like foreign cars, trips overseas and designer wardrobes, but rarely do we get to see the blood, sweat, and tears put into launching a business.
While entrepreneurship has it’s perks, such as autonomy, financial freedom, and personal growth, it isn’t easy and it isn’t for everyone.
Here are a few questions to help you decide if you’re ready to start your own business!
Have you done your research?
If you’re thinking of starting a business, it’s important to review the market you’re attempting to enter. What have similar brands been successful at doing? Does your business solve a market problem? How much do people typically pay for the services you offer? Research can be very effective in determining the longevity of a company.
What is your motivation?
As an entrepreneur, you have to find ways to keep going even when it seems like everything is falling apart. There will be times that other people may be thriving at the same thing you’re struggling to be successful at but, if you’re only motivated by money and status, how do you expect to maintain good spirit during the times you don’t have it?
Are you willing to invest in yourself?
When it comes to entrepreneurship, it takes money to make money. If you aren’t fortunate enough to have an investor, how hard will it be for you to make the necessary financial sacrifices to get your business off of the ground?
Can you practice patience? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Entrepreneurship is far from a get rich quick scheme. There will be times that your bank account won’t reflect the effort and time you put into building your brand. Can you be patient enough to wait on the money to start rolling in, while your business is growing?
If you answered no to any of these questions, don’t be discouraged. It’s more important to thoughtfully plan and prepare than to launch a business before you’re ready. For those of you who aren’t interested in starting a business, remember that success isn’t synonymous with entrepreneurship. Find a career path that works best for you.
